With an upbringing like so, I can personally say that I began to hide/dismiss a lot of things that I've felt or needed to express but didn't because of the lack of vulnerability associated within this idea of what my purpose was as a man. I just feel like this photo series/poem are just visual expressions that use the body almost as representations of these ideas. Just wanting to unravel all these symbolic traits that a Black man is traditionally taught to be is what ultimately inspired this body of work. It it is my purpose with these photos like to follow in the footsteps of many modern artist and shed light on this idea.
